When we serve others we use those gifts while doing the work of the Lord. Do the greater works of serving others because of love; good works as Scripture says. To fully understand the heart of servants, we must look at Scripture on servants’ hearts. The most perfect example of a servant’s heart is found in Jesus. Looking at the life of Christ we see the perfect example of how to abide in the love of God.

Having a heart like Jesus is a goal that many Christians strive for. It involves embodying qualities such as love, compassion, forgiveness, and selflessness in our daily lives. But how can we cultivate a heart like Jesus? Here are some key principles to keep in mind:

1. Practice Unconditional Love

Twice He took a small amount of food and feed thousands and had more left over at the end. He still has food today for the multitude and just like the apostles did we are to distribute this food to the multitude that is starving around us today. To many are only seeing the few and trying to serve them while Jesus is seeing the multitude and is saying but what about these also.

The father sought the good of his family, and ruled the family as he saw best (Peter O’Brien, The Letter to the Ephesians [Eerdmans/Apollos], p. 255). The qualities that should characterize Christian leaders are also the marks of spiritual maturity as described in the Bible. Thus, the characteristics that should mark out a Christian leader are also the marks of biblical maturity which are in essence the product of true spirituality. It is this biblical/spiritual element, at least in part, that makes the marks of Christian leadership distinctively Christian. Ironically, and contrary to the thinking of the world, true blessing comes in serving others. And the first thing that happened as I began to think about it was that I realized there are two kinds of mistakes that I could make in trying to answer the question.

One of the central teachings of Jesus is to love one another unconditionally. This means loving even those who may not deserve it or who have wronged us in some way. By practicing unconditional love, we can begin to develop a heart that mirrors the love that Jesus showed to all.

2. Cultivate Compassion

If anyone had a right to not forgive, it was Jesus. He was falsely accused, beaten, mocked, and nailed to a cross to die an excruciating death. And it wasn’t just the soldiers or the Jewish leaders that put him there.

Jesus was known for his compassion towards the poor, sick, and marginalized. To have a heart like Jesus, we must also cultivate compassion for those around us who are suffering or in need. This can involve reaching out to help others, listening empathetically, and showing kindness and understanding.

3. Embrace Forgiveness

Forgiveness is another important aspect of having a heart like Jesus. Just as Jesus forgave those who crucified him, we too must learn to forgive others who have wronged us. Holding onto grudges only weighs us down, while forgiveness sets us free and allows us to move forward with love and grace.

4. Practice Selflessness

Selflessness is at the core of Jesus’ teachings. He lived a life of service to others, always putting their needs above his own. To have a heart like Jesus, we must also practice selflessness by serving others, giving generously, and prioritizing the well-being of those around us.

By following these principles and striving to live a life that reflects the love, compassion, forgiveness, and selflessness of Jesus, we can begin to develop a heart that mirrors his own. It is a journey that requires continual effort and self-reflection, but the rewards of having a heart like Jesus are immeasurable.
